DO WHITE LIES HARM US?

Have you ever tell white lies? Lying is usually related to deceiving. However, sometimes we lie to others for good intentions. We are not trying to gain any benefit from telling those lies. Our purpose of the lie is usually protecting someone from distressful reality.

Nevertheless, who gives us the authority to determine whether someone should or should not know the truth and whether the white lies will not harm our friends? According to Frankfurt in his writing On Truth, Lies, and Bullshit, relying on a close friend whom we give our entire trust has become our second nature. Thus, when we know our friends lie to us, it will give us "a feeling of being a little crazy". The issue is not what our friends lie to us, or what is their intentions. It is the action of lying itself making us uncomfortable that we found our own nature becomes unreliable and deceitful.

This feeling of insecure may harm us in an unnecessary way. As a human being, we live in groups and always pursue some intimate relationships. However, white lies are destroying those intimate relationships. White lies create doubts between people. For example, we know that white lies usually are with good intentions, but they also show someone's capability to lie. How could I know you never lie to me before or lie to me in the future. Compared to telling a white lie, no truth can be covered forever. We will eventually know some oppressive facts at a later time. Telling a white lie is usually when we do not know what to do and want to postpone the problem. Lying is never a solution to a problem. We will eventually know the truth and face them.

  1. Try hyperlinking Frankfurts article to his name. Also, maybe give a sentence background on who Frankfurt is and why he matters. Remember, we are meant to be writing to an audience who has no background on the subject. I love the topic, though, and besides that it is very well written. The topic is perfect for connecting to class as well as an interesting topic in general. The all capital letters for the title are a good way to attract people to read your blog. Aesthetically, it might be beneficial to include another image the grab the reader's attention as they scroll through the page.

  2. I really enjoyed the general argument of the blog post. The title attracted me to read this post, which is a good sign! I do think that there could be a stronger introduction. It seems a little weak and is not as exciting as the title. Maybe put in a little anecdote or a scene from a movie. Great job mentioning Frankfort and his writing, but make sure to provide enough information about the concepts that you are mentioning. Your examples are good representations of what you want to explain, but I feel like they could be more specific. Maybe you can take real-life examples instead of hypothetical ones. Overall, the idea of the blog post was excellent!

  3. This is a great post that challenges the reader to think deeply about something they may have thought was insignificant. I think it would be interesting to also include Floridi's ideas about "digital reality" and how things like fake/exaggerated news warps our sense of what's real. I would also suggest putting your text through a grammar tool to check for errors. This is a good start and a little polishing would make it even better.

  4. You have a chosen an interesting topic and a title that really stands out from the others. I appreciate your attempt to reference Frankfurt’s work, but I find the quote to be rather vague and needs more elaboration. I would suggest you to incorporate more critical insights and provide additional contexts of the reading for people who are not from this class. The overall message of this bog post is clear and easy to follow, and the image does a good job stressing the point that you are making. However, the examples given are all hypothetical which weakens your argument.
